Who and WHAAAAT is the Dog House?
The Dog House is hands down one of the most popular on-air programs that has ever hit the Bay Area airwaves.
In the early 90s, JV and Hollywood, best friends since high school, were working morning drive in Bakersfield and Modesto. They then met the third member of the Dog House family Elvis a few years later. The three started working their radio magic, paid their dues in small markets, and then made their way to the now defunct Hot 97.7 in San Jose.
In 1995, KYLD in San Francisco, one of the biggest urban station in the country decided to plug The Dog House into their morning drive. They shattered ratings and reached numbers that were unheard of. They had a 10.8 share, which meant at least 10% of the entire radio listening audience was tuned in--numbers unheard of in any market.
The Dog House were pioneers in radio as other morning shows across the country commonly tried to duplicate their material and imitate them. They rode motorcycles into the bay, had crew members make out with a retard and even taped this segment so they could show their fans at a comedy show...WARNING! BE PREPARED...IT COULD BE HILARIOUS TO SOME AND JUST AWFUL TO OTHERS...DON'T WORRY...NO NUDITY...YOU PROBABLY HAVE NEVER SEE ANYTHING LIKE THIS!
They were very edgy and foul, but they always found a way to give back to the community. They constantly raised money for people in need. JV swam from Alcatraz to shore to help raise money for a sick child. Hollywood walked from San Francisco to a San Jose hospital collecting money for an infant with a disease. They also opened phone lines for people who couldn't afford funerals for loved ones, amongst other things.

Okay, I gagged a little when they started sharing, but it was still funny.
Now you've got me wondering if the Clear Channel drones would stand for such things. I know Mancow, a similar show based out of Kansas City in the nineties, got axed when CC took over all the stations nearby. He moved to Chicago, and now it looks like he's become a bit of a sell-out.
OMG, I grew up listening to the Dog House. That was the sh** in High School. We always listened to them early in the morning on our way to school. Now I am hardly ever up that early to listen, lol.
