The Dog House had a successful run for nearly a decade as the morning show in the San Francisco Bay Area. They shattered ratings records left and right and were the THING to listen to every morning from 6-10 a.m.
JV, host of The Dog House, always wanted to be syndicated. Clear Channel and their station Wild 94.9 never backed them. JV informed the program director that The Dog House was not going to re-sign with the station at the end of the year.
The show was alawys rude and obnoxious, poking fun at guests when they came in studio. Then comes April 2005, some band performing a concert came in and Elvis, the co-host of the show said that people join bands in high school because they are too fat to be cheerleaders. He then said he was joking. The girl was upset and told the program director, who then suspended The Dog House.
A few days later, he fired the entire show, hoping to get a head start in rebuilding the station. Wild 94.9, the station The Dog House built, never gave The Dog House what Elvis and JV gave the station. From that day forward, I refuse to listen to that station, AND YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER!!!
What added insult to injury was a comedy event JV came up with called The Dog House Comedy Jam. Acts like Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Shawn Wayans, Dave Attell, Ralphie May--the list goes on and on and on...
This event would pack The Shoreline in Mountain View every summer. And even after The Dog House got fired, Wild 94.9 still ran the event, claiming it was their invention.
This brings up the next point of the biggest backstabber of them all--Carlos Mencia. Mencia would not even have a career if it wasn't for The Dog House. Mencia headlined every single Comedy Jam The Dog House ever put on, and still did the show when he knew The Dog House was fired from the station.
Mencia is a sell-out and plus, he steals jokes...See this, Mencia gets called out by Joe Rogan for stealing jokes, and Carlos Mencia's real name is really Ned.
The Dog House put Carlos Mencia and Dave Chappelle on the map and were the catalyst for the big boom in stand-up comedy in the last several years. They packed a stadium of 25,000+ and the rest of the nation recognized this. They then started putting on comedy tours themselves. The Dog House did a lot of things, i.e. Comedy Jams and all the Jackass stunts (see previous posts) that they never got credit for at all--and that totally sucks...
The Dog House however has landed on their feet and are on in New York's Free-FM. You can listen online every morning from 6-9 PT.

I just hope one day they come back and get syndicated. My mornings just aren't the same...

Damn, that's hilarious. I never would have pegged Mencia for stealing jokes. But I think viewers just assume comedians and performers are legit.
I never did think he was that funny, his skits are often times stupid. If Mencia is stealing jokes, I wouldn't expect him to back anybody who helped him get to where he is today.
Here's a link to the guy who was videoing the youtube video. He was banned from the comedy store for filming this video because of the shit storm it created. Here's a link to his site, he has 12 posts about Menstealia and it's almost a history of the feud between Rogan and Mencia.

I understand that if I created a joke and someone used I might be mad, but to the victors goes the spoils.
I love mencia, I think he has some good social commentary in his bits. I don't care as a viewer where he got it from. I don't even care if he's not latino.
I laugh, and when I here the jokes I sometimes laugh hard.
Heres some great commentary on the joke stealing issue.
That sucks. I guess that's how things really go down in this business huh? People stealing ideas and then taking all the credit for them. At least the real guys are still out their and that sucks that your morning aren't the same. I used to listen to a station growing up that played nothing but classic rock and the hosts Bob and Tom were hillarious. The only way to listen now is to go online. 104 the Hawk, you should check it out, they play great music, but it's just not the same as gettin in on the radio.
Interesting. I didn't know much about that show, but I know about Carlos Mencia, so it was interesting to know where came from!
I personally don't like shows that make fun of other people. Like in 97.3 they have the Sarah and Noname morning show and I hate it. No Name is an ass to everyone and they never talk about anything interesting in my opinion.
Then again, I must admit I like Carlos Mencia, so maybe when it comes to TV I judge things different... I don't know.
